About RainOn
People are travelers and adventurers. In today's connected, real-time, social world, people want to share their travels and adventures rapidly with their family, friends, and the world at large to engage, entertain, and inspire. It is the aim of RainOn Adventure Tech to give them the tools to do so. RainOn Adventure Tech is a system of field gear, device software, and web-based applications with connections to all popular social networks.
RainOn was founded in 2010 by Kurt Hunter, an avid mountain climber and blogger. Kurt created the RainOn Adventure Tech software while planning his expeditions to the highest peaks in both North and South America. The first successful use of the RainOn Adventure Tech software was on Cero Aconcagua in January of 2010. This deployment utilized RainOn 3DGeoTrail, an interactive 3D map powered by Google Earth with near-real time GPS location information. Even in the most isolated parts of the world it is possible for your friends and family to follow your adventure!
The RainOn Adventure Tech device software provides a simple and field-ready interface for preparing and uploading dispatches from the field. The connection to the RainOn Adventure Tech servers allows for easy posting to Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.
About Our Founder, Kurt Hunter
For over seven years, Kurt would stare up at the Pacific Northwest icon, Mt. Rainier, dreaming of the summit. But years of high-tech office work at Apple, Microsoft, and numerous start-ups in Silicon Valley ultimately lead to an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle that put this dream well out of reach. Morbidly obese in late 2003, Kurt was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, a combination of medical disorders including: diabetes mellitus type 2, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and high triglyceride levels.
At the beginning of 2004, Kurt began the amazing 20/20 LifeStyles program at the PRO Sports Club in Bellevue, WA. Through the program's combination of education, nutrition guidance, exercise, lifestyle coaching, and medical supervision, Kurt was not only able to lose over 100 pounds, but was able to reclaim control of his health, reverse his metabolic syndrome and place his diabetes into remission.
The culmination of the 20/20 LifeStyles program came with Kurt's first successful summit of Mt. Rainier—the 14,411 ft. giant of the Cascades—as part of a five-day mountaineering educational course above 10,000 feet on its south flank. Not only did Kurt check off one of his life goals, he did so with characteristic style and flair. And with that, a new mountaineer was born. Since that initial Mt. Rainier climb, Kurt completed the intensive Seattle Mountaineer's Basic Climbing instruction course and has gone on to climb numerous peaks and mountains in the Cascades, including Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, Mt. Hood and multiple summits of Mt. Rainier. Beyond the Cascades, Kurt has just narrowly missed the summits of North America - Denali and South America - Aconcagua due to weather and illness while reaching the high camps on both mountains and completing each of the entire 3-week expeditions.
Kurt's change of lifestyle and unique story has inspired hundreds of people and he has been featured in TV commercials, magazine articles, and several print advertisements. Some examples are shown here.
Throughout it all, Kurt has learned that it is a wonderful and beautiful thing to inspire others to obtain and maintain a healthy lifestyle, whatever your passion. But it is the support and encouragement of others that makes it possible. Now, Kurt has combined his passion for mountaineering with his high-tech skills and connections to bring together a system of field gear, device software, and web-based applications to allow adventurers of all types to share their travels and adventures with their family, friends, and the world at large to engage, entertain, and inspire.
As Kurt is fond of saying, "Follow your dreams to higher places and share the adventure!"
